FIELD RECORDINGS: Music from the Ether

Field Recordings: Music from the Ether is the result of an experimental interdisciplinary arts project called The Ether, an extensive collaboration between a group of Icelandic and Norwegian artists from various fields. Also released as part of the bookwork Manifestations, the music on Field Recordings features mechanical music devices from all ages, such as the medieval symphonie, pipe organ, a computer controlled drum robot and vocaloid singing.

Like a powered up white noise suite, but better, subtler, gentler even, Field Recordings: Music from the Ether is an instrumental gem that absorbs the listener’s attention indirectly, mainly in the way the reality starts to be perceived while listening to it. The landscape changes its hues, becoming vague, almost shapeless, in accordance with the acoustic flow. Through the album’s notes, the dreary shadows and the dim light of wintry nordic afternoons become vital nodes in themselves.
